Passports

As of the 17th August 2009 the British Embassy in Stockholm no longer processes applications for British passports. All passport issuing in Northern Europe is being centralised to Düsseldorf. Please see the website of the British Passport Processing Centre in Northern Europe for more details.

From 17th of August 2009  passport applications should be sent by courier or registered post directly to:

Passport Section
British Consulate-General
Yorckstrasse 19
40476 Düsseldorf
Tyskland

The passport team in Düsseldorf aim to issue new passports within 10 working days of receiving the correct supporting documents (excluding transit time).

All the relevant passport forms can be downloaded together with new information on the application process.

Important information on passport photos

It is essential that when submitting photographs with your application to Düsseldorf, that they meet the Identity and Passport Service standards. It may help to print out a copy of the photo standards either to pass to your photographer, or for you to check if your photo meets the standards. Submitting incorrect photos will slow down the application process - until a correct one is submitted.

Important information on payment

Please note that you cannot pay by cheque. Credit card is the only accepted method of payment.

What this means to you?

You must:

  • Look after your passport.
  • Check its validity. (Passports can be renewed up to 9 months before they expire. The extra time will be added on to the new passport’s period of validity.)
  • If you do not have a full validity passport, you will need to allow extra time to obtain one.
  • If you are a frequent traveller, to countries requiring a visa, please enquire about purchasing a second passport.*

*These are issued at the discretion of the British Embassy/High Commission/Consulate.  Applicants must demonstrate that: a) they are entitled to a British passport and b) there is a genuine need to hold a second passport.
